Wales football fans have taken to social media to express their anger after tickets to the Cardiff fanzone were snapped up after an hour and a half.

The Principality Stadium will screen the Wales v Portugal semi-final in front of 20,000 people on Wednesday evening.

Free fanzone tickets were available from 10am this morning on a first-come-first-served basis, with a maximum of four tickets per person.

But after the Principality Stadium tweeted to say there were no tickets left, dozens of fans began complaining of long queues and technical errors.

Alan Edwards tweeted: 'What a waste of time. Been in the queue since before 10 and didn't even make it close to being able to book'.

Carys Haf said: 'Why was I told the queue time was 30-60 minutes to not even be shown onto the site until after it had sold out?'

Awel Evans tweeted: 'I managed to get through the loading page, but it won't let me add [the tickets] to the basket?'

Cormac O'Keefe said: 'At ten past ten the system went down. Think they need to look at their systems to cope with demand'.

Among the disappointed fans was Mark Jones from Pontypool, who had campaigned for Cardiff to have a Euro 2016 fanzone in the first place.

He told ITV News: "I'm heartbroken. The whole idea of switching to the Principality Stadium was so more people could go. And yet, I campaigned for it, I haven't missed one fanzone - and now I can't go".

A spokesperson for the Principality Stadium apologised to disappointed fans but said the demand for tickets was "overwhelming", with "tens of thousands of people" joining the site at 10am.
