A Welsh holidaymaker survived an horrific fall from a hotel balcony in Magaluf - but has been warned it could take up to 10 years for him to recover.

Andrew Phillips, 25, of Newport, was in a coma after he suffered severe head injuries in the fall on the first night of his holiday.

Bricklayer Andrew was rushed to hospital after being found sprawled on the hotel lawn - and was critically ill for five days.

But just over two weeks later he flown back to recover at home at Brynglas, Newport.

Andrew has no memory of the fall from his first-floor balcony just hours after arriving in the Spanish resort.

Joanne said Andrew, who is dad to five-year-old Rylee, is waiting on an MRI scan which will tell if he has muscle or nerve damage which would lead to him having an operation.

She added: "He can't remember anything about how it happened. We're hoping it will come back to him.

"We think he slipped off the balcony but don't really know - the boys were all having a laugh. It's still a mystery to us all."

"We were all heartbroken when we heard what had happened. We're relieved that he's home and he is as good as he can be."
