Wales marks Somme centenary with overnight vigil

First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones will lead Wales' commemorations at an overnight vigil on Thursday, to honour those who fought in the largest battle of the First World War one hundred years ago.

It's part of the Cymru'n Cofio / Wales Remembers 1914-1918 programme, which this year focuses on the Battle of the Somme.

Members of the public are invited to attend the event at Llandaf Cathedral, alongside members of the Army, Royal Navy, RAF and the Royal British Legion.

Community groups across Wales are also marking the event by helping to make thousands of poppies.

350 of them will be taken to France for the commemoration ceremony next week.

Other events are being held across Wales and the UK.
