It may be 58 years since Wales competed in a major tournament, but what about the forgotten campaign of 1976.

During the summer of '76, Wales reached the quarter finals of the European Championship in Yugoslavia.

Although they lost their first game of the campaign to Austria, Wales won their next five games including a double over Hungary. The Dragons sailed through qualifying, but despite this, they fell at the quarter-final stage.

The team was captained by Terry Yorath, who has since represented a string of clubs including Swansea City, Leeds, Tottenham Hotspur and Bradford. He also later became manager of Swansea City, Cardiff City and even Wales.

Meanwhile John Toshack, another former Wales manager, led his team from the front when playing in the EUFA Euro 1976 tournament.

When Wales played Yugoslavia in the tournament, it was the first time since 1958 that they'd gone any further in a competition than the qualifiers.

With Chris Coleman's squad facing Northern Ireland on Saturday after finishing top of the group in the qualifiers, it's fair to say the current team will be anything but forgotten.
