Driver admits killing father and son in crash
A young driver today admitted killing a father and son crossing the road holding hands after a Christmas party.
Joshua Staples, who's 22, killed father Stuart Bates, 43, and his seven-year-old son Fraser.
Staples was driving his black Alfa Romeo in Talbot Green on December 6.
Stuart Bates and son Fraser were returning from a Christmas jumper party when Staples crashed into them on a dual carriageway.
The pair had been at their party with mother Anna-Louise but had left to make their way home.
Mr Bates died from his injuries and Fraser was taken to Bristol Children's Hospital where he later died.
But his organs were donated to save the lives of four others.
Staples today admitted killing IT programme manager Stuart and his son by careless driving at Cardiff Crown Court
He pleading not guilty to charges of causing death by dangerous driving and his plea was accepted.
Andrew Jones, defending, asked for Staples to be granted conditional bail until he is sentenced.
Judge Eleri Rees told Staples he was banned from driving, and granted him bail on the condition he stays at his address in Tonyrefail, Rhondda Cynon Taff, until sentencing.
Judge Rees said: "You are now disqualified from driving any motor vehicle on any road."
Mum Anna-Louise, of Llanishen, Cardiff, told of her grief at losing her husband and son killed while crossing the road at Talbot Green, South Wales, on December 6 on the way home from a "Christmas jumpers" party.
Solicitor Anna, 39, said: "These very special men will never be forgotten."
Anna-Louise said she "didn't even need to think" before committing to organ donation.
She said the pair will "live on" after Fraser saved four people's lives through organ donation, while Stuart also donated tissue to help others.
Staples will be sentenced on July 8 at Cardiff Crown Court.
