Rugby legend Shane Williams eyes gruelling triathlon and ironman events

Rugby legend Shane Williams may have retired from the sport, but the former Wales international is in no mood to put his feet up as he prepares to take on two epic challenges.

The 39-year-old will compete in the Swansea Triathlon next month, before tackling the gruelling Ironman Wales in September.

Around 1,000 competitors are expected to take part in Swansea Triathlon on June 5 - which includes a 750 metre swim, a 20km bike ride before a 5km run.

And then three months later, the Ironman Wales will push Williams even harder with its 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride followed by a full marathon.

In the run up to both events Williams has been getting into shape at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Carmarthen.

Among those putting the ex-Ospreys and British Lions player through his paces has been the university's director of outdoor fitness Geraint Forster.

Mr Forster said the training he had been doing with Williams involved a lot of video analysis work.
