Soldier jailed for punching woman who refused 'high five' in pub

A soldier was jailed for punching a woman who refused to give him a "high five" in a pub.

Afghanistan veteran Mark Griffiths, 37, lashed out in anger when he raised his hand to victim Lauren Jones - but she refused to slap it back.

Rifleman Griffiths punched her in the face before hitting her with a bottle.

A court heard he will now face being dishonourably discharged from the army after serving for eight years in the forces.

Griffiths - who served on two tours to Afghanistan - was drinking heavily off-duty in the King's Head pub in Chepstow.

Cardiff Crown Court heard he attacked Miss Jones, 26, when she refused to acknowledge his high five because he was "being a nuisance."

Griffiths, of Warrington, Cheshire, was jailed for three years after being found guilty of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
