Triathlete Helen Jenkins has secured her place in the GB triathlon squad for this summer’s Rio Olympics after gaining the final nomination by British Triathlon.

The 32 year old double World Champion thrust her way back into contention for selection at last week’s ITU World Triathlon Series round in Gold Coast Australia where she blew away the field to win for the first time since 2012.

That performance has convinced selectors that she is worthy of the final spot in a three-woman team that will include fellow Welsh athlete Non Stanford.

The selection marks a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Jenkins who has struggled with injury since finishing 5th at the London 2012 Olympic Games, a path she has admitted left her wondering if she should continue competing at all.

But a strong showing in Australia came at the perfect time to secure selection alongside Stanford and England’s Vicky Holland for the women’s race on August 20th.
