Ieuan Lloyd, Georgia Davies and Chloe Tutton have been selected for Great Britain’s swimming team for this summer’s Rio Olympics despite missing out on automatic qualifying times.

They will be joined in the GB squad by Jazz Carlin who automatically qualified for the 400m freestyle at last weekend’s British Championships after missing out in her favoured 800m freestyle.

Carlin’s selection marks the highlight of a difficult few years in which she missed out on selection for London 2012 through illness before returning to win Wales’ first female Commonwealth swimming gold in 40 years at Glasgow 2014.

19 year old Chloe Tutton makes the squad for her first Olympic games following a remarkable week in which she set a new personal best of 2 minutes 22:34 to lift the national title in the 200m breaststroke.

2014 Commonwealth 50m backstroke gold medallist Georgia Davies will line up line 200m backstroke despite missing out on automatic selection at the British championships for what will be her second Olympic outing, after making the cut for GB at London 2012, along with Cardiff based Ieuan Lloyd.

“After some strong performances at the British Swimming Championships in Glasgow we are excited to welcome this talented group of swimmers onto Team GB for this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro’ Team GB’s Chef de Mission Mark England said.

“The athletes selected have shown that they are capable of producing performances at the highest level and among the ranks are World and European Champions as well as athletes capable of swimming world-record times.

“This group has fantastic potential and I am excited about watching them compete for Team GB in Brazil.”
