Welsh Yemeni designer on hopes to crack the fashion world

A Cardiff fashion designer says religion should be no barrier for fashion as she hopes to make it big in the industry.

Mother-of-one, Haifa Shamsan, 27, started her business Maysmode when she realised there was nothing on the market that she liked which catered to women wanting to look fashionable but modest - both Muslim and non-Muslim.

Haifa is a proud 'hijabi' - wearer of the traditional Muslim headscarf and believes religion should not cramp a woman's style.

Haifa's three-year-old daughter Mays is big on fashion too

Haifa works out of her flat to create bespoke pieces which are available online. She says her main goal is to keep the clothes modest but are a celebration of both the Arab and Western styles.

She also makes children's clothes to match the adult designs.

Haifa says her company is inspired by her daughter Mays whose name translates to 'walking with pride' and says her designs are for women of all religions and faiths.
