A Welsh council is exploring ways to stop "aggressive" seagulls attacking people at popular resorts.

Visitors and residents in Llandudno and Conwy have complained of being targeted by swooping birds on the hunt for food.

Conwy council says a by-law banning the feeding of gulls would be “expensive and ineffective” by itself.

A council report says: 'The main way to control seagull population numbers in urban areas is to reduce their main food sources.

'Feeding by members of the public is not how they source their main food supply, which is from waste.

'Removing waste food availability and changing human behaviour would be the most appropriate approach to control nuisance and safety issues presented by seagulls.

'Tourism is the life blood of the authority and a major employer so it is vital that we do all we can in trying to alleviate the issue of gulls attacking visitors and residents.'

It comes as one woman in Scarborough, Yorkshire, is calling for a seagull cull to deal with "vermin" gulls causing problems in her area.
