UKIP Wales launch Assembly election manifesto

UKIP Wales officially launch their manifesto today, ahead of May's Welsh Assembly elections.

Their proposals are broken down into four main areas; devolution, NHS, education and transport.

Their highlights include:

DEVOLUTION

  • Involving Welsh Westminster MPs in pre-legislative scrutiny of legislation, before its passage through the Welsh Assembly

  • Inviting all Welsh councils to appoint one or two councillors to a panel whose members would assist Assembly Committees in oversight of Welsh ministers and government, thus avoiding any costly increase in the number of AMs

  • Promoting devolution to local councils and communities

NHS

  • A full-scale independent inquiry into all NHS health services in Wales

  • Treating cancer as a top priority, and developing a new and enhanced cancer strategy for Wales

  • Elected local health boards

  • Training fire personnel so they can also operate as paramedics

EDUCATION

  • Introduce statutory modern foreign language teaching from age 7

  • Implement an 'autism curriculum' which captures not only children's learning requirements but also seeks to address social, emotional and communication needs

  • Abolish fees for Welsh undergraduates taking degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEM) subjects in Wales

TRANSPORT

  • Scrap the Severn Bridge tolls in 2 years when the current concession comes to an end

  • Support building an M4 Relief Road along the 'Blue Route'

  • Axe the £73 million Welsh government budget for climate change projects
