Macur Review finds no evidence to undermine inquiry into north Wales child abuse

A review into historical child abuse in north Wales has found no evidence to undermine a previous inquiry.

The Macur Review - led by Lady Justice Macur - was ordered in 2012 after doubts were raised over Sir Ronald Waterhouse's 'Lost in Care' report that was published in 2000. Both reports concerned the abuse of children in the care of Gwynedd and Clywd Council areas between 1974 and 1996.

Welsh Secretary Stephen Crabb MP told the House of Commons this morning that Lady Justice Macur had concluded that there was 'no reason to undermine the conclusion of Waterhouse in respect of the nature and scale of abuse,' and there was no evidence of the involvement of nationally prominent individuals in the abuse of children in care in north Wales between 1974 and 1996.'

Lady Justice Macur said she was satisfied that the terms of reference of the Waterhouse Inquiry were not designed to protect anybody.
