Local historians have joined forces with a Wrexham MP to trace the families of men who worked at Llay Main Colliery.

It's almost 50 years since the closure of the coal mine and they're trying to find as many people as possible who had connections to it.

Members from Llay Miners' Heritage Centre and Llay Community Council will be marking the anniversary of its closure at a service in March.

Part of the ceremony will be a commemoration of the men who lost their lives working there and they would like relatives to take part.

The memorial ceremony will take place on March 11th and will include a church service and balloon release to commemorate the men's sacrifice.

Around eighty people were killed at the site with nine of them losing their lives on the same day in December 1924.

Vic Tyler-Jones is helping to organise the event and says the names of the men who passed away will be read out.

A whole day of commemoration is planned for next month. Credit: ITV News
