Tan backs manager Slade to lead Cardiff back to Premier League

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has thrown his full backing behind Manager Russell Slade saying he “has faith” in the former Leyton Orient man.

Slade has become the target of displeasure from some sections of the City Stadium support this season for what many see as under par performances despite having to cut the club’s wage bill significantly since taking the job, and more recently working under a transfer embargo imposed by the Football League.

Speaking as he unveiled plans to erase Cardiff City’s £100m+ debt by 2021 Tan stopped short of putting a time frame on any new deal but gave the firmest indication yet that he is set to extend Slade’s stay at the Championship club.

Russell Slade has faith in me, I have faith in him. We’ll sort things out. We don’t have to tell the world what kind of contract we do. We’ll let the world know when the time is right. Russell is very comfortable. Russell trusts us, we trust him. It’s a good relationship. I urged the fans to give more support to Russell, to be more positive and to not be negative. I believe, God Willing, that Cardiff City can go to the Premier League. We have a squad that is capable, we have a good squad, we have a good manager contrary to what some of the fans think. I think Russell Slade is a good manager, he’s done a good job considering the constraints that he has to work in. We’re number nine in the league which is not too bad. Of course we would like to be number three, four, five but we didn’t really invest much money when he’s [been] here.
