Should singing Tom Jones' 'Delilah' be banned from rugby matches over claims it glorifies violence?
A Labour MP is calling for the classic Tom Jones song "Delilah" to be banned from Six Nations rugby matches - saying it glorifies domestic violence.
House of Commons shadow leader and Rhondda MP Chris Bryant is campaigning for the Welsh rugby anthem to be dropped after claiming the song is about "killing a prostitute".
The Sixties hit is an unofficial anthem at matches - with male voice choirs and even Tom himself singing it.
But Mr Bryant has called for an alternative to the iconic song after claiming it incites violence.
The Rhondda MP has joined singer and Welsh folk singer and former Plaid Cymru president Dafydd Iwan in raising concerns about the Tom Jones ballad.
Bosses at the Welsh Rugby Union have defended the song - by comparing its dark subject matter to Shakespearean tragedies like Romeo and Juliet.
A spokesman said: "Within rugby, Delilah has gained prominence through its musicality rather than because of its lyrics.
"There is however plenty of precedent in art and literature, prominently in Shakespearean tragedies for instance, for negative aspects of life to be portrayed."
