Welsh MP to ask UK Government to reimburse Caerphilly Council
Labour MP Wayne David will call on the UK Government to reimburse Caerphilly Council for salaries paid to three senior staff during their suspension.
The case against chief executive Anthony O'Sullivan, his deputy Nigel Barnett and the council's head of legal services, Daniel Perkins lasted for two years.
Whilst legal proceedings were on-going, the council were legally obliged to pay their full salaries amounting to over a million pounds.
Fraud charges against the three senior staff members were dropped last year.
Mr David has secured a debate in the House of Commons on the huge cost to Caerphilly County Borough Council. He is expected to point to what he calls a "catalogue" of legal mistakes and failings in the system, which led to the long-running case.
He will ask the UK Government to consider reimbursing the local authority for these salary costs.
