Doctors warn of busy A&E departments as icy weather causes slips and falls
Emergency doctors are warning people to take care in the cold weather after a rise in injuries because of the icy conditions.
There's been an increase in the number of people attending emergency departments at both Morriston and the Princess of Wales hospitals.
In just two hours 28 people arrived at the Princess of Wales hospital in Bridgend with ice-related injuries, such as fractures, sprains and severe bruising - something doctors describe as 'exceptional'.
Morriston Hospital in Swansea has seen similar conditions - with a 70 per cent increase in attendances. This includes 15 'complex' cases, which have required surgery or joint manipulation.
Meanwhile doctors are advising patients to help keep themselves and their families safe and well.
Very cold weather can lead to an increase in conditions such as flu, hypothermia and heart attacks.
