Three primary schools in Pembrokeshire are set to close after the council decided pupil numbers made them 'unsustainable.'

Angle VC School, Orielton CP School and Stackpole VC School on the Angle Peninsula will close to make way for a new primary school.

Pembrokeshire Council says the numbers attending the three rural schools made it 'unsustainable' for them to continue long-term. Those against the move now have 28 days to oppose it.

The three schools will be replaced by a Welsh medium school, but some have raised concerns about the distance children will have to travel.

Whilst a consultation report released this month showed the majority were in favour of the closures, around a quarter didn't support it.

There are concerns about:

  • The impact the closures may have on the community

  • Transport to and from school

  • Cost of building a new school

During an extraordinary council meeting there was a unanimous decision to go ahead with a new Welsh medium school for three to 16 year olds in Haverfordwest.
