Severn crossing toll prices to increase from tomorrow

There'll be an increase in toll prices from January 1st.

The new, increased toll prices for vehicles crossing the Severn Bridge will be introduced from tomorrow onwards.

The rise follows the trend in recent years of increased prices for vehicles of all types to cross the Severn.

According to the Severn River Crossing PLC (SRC) the increases are stipulated in the 1992 Severn Bridges Act and adjusted by the Retail Price Index, which was published last month.

Earlier this year the subject of the Severn tolls came under scrutiny, with Monmouth MP David Davies demanding answers as to why motorists using the Severn crossings are being required to "help pay off an £88m UK Government debt when it has pocketed a £140m windfall."

The currently, privately owned bridges return to public ownership in 2018, and it is currently unclear what this will mean for drivers crossing the river after this time.
