Maternity services in north Wales will continue to be doctor-led after health board U-turn
Controversial plans to remove doctor-led maternity care at some hospitals in north Wales have been abandoned.
Earlier this year Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board announced it wanted to remove doctors from the maternity unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd due to a recruitment shortfall. The plans caused major protests and prompted a legal challenge, which halted the health board's proposals.
Today, after a public consultation on the issue, the health board confirmed that as new consultants had been recruited, there was no longer a need to remove services from any hospital.
The move has been welcomed by the British Medical Association and campaigners.
