They fled conflict in Syria, but the Al Sharki family won't be complete until their son can join them in Wales

A family from Syria who are now living in Wales say they've been forced to leave their nine-month-old son in Lebanon, after authorities stopped him travelling.

Mousa Al Sharki, his wife Rajaa and their four children lived in Aleppo, but as fighting escalated they realised it was no longer a safe place to raise their children and decided to leave. Earlier this year, Mousa travelled to the UK, while his pregnant wife and children went to Lebanon, where she gave birth to baby Omar.

Watch Alexandra Lodge's report:

Mousa sought refuge in the UK and managed to get a family reunion visa to bring his wife and children to Cardiff, but an error on Omar's passport meant it didn't match his birth certificate and he wasn't allowed to board the flight. Rajaa told ITV News she had no choice but to leave her son with her sister-in-law.

Omar's passport states he was born in Damascus rather in Lebanon meaning he can't re-join his family until the passport is changed - something the family can't afford to do.

The Home Office says it is an unfortunate situation, but the UK Government can't do anything to help as they can't change Omar's passport. The family has been in contact with their local MP and the Red Cross to try and resolve the situation.
