The winner bakes it all as Ebbw Vale woman takes cake award

A woman from Ebbw Vale has wowed judges at a national competition - by scooping a gold medal for her remarkable elf cake.

31-year-old amateur baker Jay Humphris' effort won gold at the National Sugarcraft competition at the NEC in Birmingham, after meeting its strict judging criteria.

All of the impressive sculpture had to be edible and no wires were used to keep the cake intact.

It took Jay five weeks to complete the effort and her victory was even more impressive given that the bar manager had never previously entered a baking competition.

There were also more than 100 entries her category, with over 1,000 across the whole competition.
