39 Welsh tourists taken to hospital after coach crash in Switzerland

Welsh tourists were taken to hospital after the coach they were travelling on was involved in a crash in Switzerland.

A group of 39 people from south Wales were returning from a 10-day trip to Lake Como in Italy. 41 people were injured, including three Welsh tourists who sustained serious injuries.

Jason Edwards, from Edwards Coaches, says the crash happened at around 12pm yesterday just north of Lucerne in Switzerland.

The crash happened on the A2 motorway in Eich. Swiss police said four vehicles were involved in the collision and that 20 ambulances and three rescue helicopters were dispatched to the scene.

Police said an investigation into the cause of the crash was ongoing.

Mr Edwards said many of the passengers who had been taken to hospital had been discharged and were staying in a hotel while arrangements are made to bring them home.
