A burglar has been jailed after his DNA was found on beef jerky.

Kristian Evans, 33, tucked into the dried meat treat during the raid, but DNA left on the food linked him to the crime scene.

Prosecutor Carina Hughes said police recovered a "partially eaten beef jerky" at the scene - and were able to get a DNA sample that led to Evans.

Evans, of Sandfields, Swansea, pleaded guilty to burglary.

He has previous convictions for 52 offences - including for burglaries, shoplifting, theft, robbery, racially aggravated public order, criminal damage, assaulting a police officer and possession of heroin.

Dan Griffiths, defending, said Evans was "disgusted" at what he had done.

Evans was jailed for three years in prison for the burglary at Swansea Crown Court.
