People urged to vote for one of Wales' most loved up dance halls

The Newbridge Memo is appealing to everyone who met their life partners at the venue to vote for the project in the National Lottery Awards.

Rita and Brian Evans met at the Saturday Dance in The Memo in 1956.

Rita was a student Nurse and Brian was in the Royal Air Force but came home to continue his 'courtship' with Rita.

They married after 4 years and have been together ever since.

The couple have been very volunteering over the past 12 years to help restore this dance hall that created so many personal memories.

Rita and Brian are urging other couples who's story follow a similar path to vote for The Memo to receive the heritage gong in the National Lottery Awards

The Memo used to be called Celynen Collieries Institute and Memorial Hall Credit: Newbridge Memo ltd

So far, the 'Memo' has received £3.4 million from Lottery funding to help restore the 100 year old hall.

It's the only entry from Wales up for the award.
