A cook from Bargoed near Caerphilly has won School Chef of the Year. Kate Davies from St Gwladwys Bargoed Primary School beat hundreds of competitors to win.

Judges were looking for skill, creativity, technical ability and nutrition when they picked their winner, after challenging the cooks to create a healthy meal for £1.60 a head. Kate won after cooking up her fire-cracker chicken curry and mango yoghurt.

Pupils and staff at St Gwladwys Bargoed Primary School were delighted with her victory, and have praised her for the enjoyable and healthy meals she and her team prepare for them on a daily basis.

Megan Boot went to the school at lunchtime to find out what pupils make of Kate's win, and of course her food!
