The ITV Wales Election Debate: Everything you need to know

The ITV Wales Election Debate between representatives of the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, Plaid Cymru, Wales Greens and UKIP parties takes place on Wednesday April 22.

How can I watch the Wales Election Debate?

The debate will be broadcast live on ITV Cymru Wales from 8pm to 10pm, and will be moderated by Political Editor Adrian Masters.

If you live outside Wales, you can watch the debate live online at itv.com/wales.

The hashtag for the night is #WalesDebate

Who is taking part?

Taking part in the debate will be: Stephen Crabb (Welsh Secretary); Owen Smith (Shadow Welsh Secretary); Kirsty Williams AM (Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats); Leanne Wood AM (Plaid Cymru); Nathan Gill (MEP UKIP) and Pippa Bartolotti (Wales Green Party Leader).

What is the format?

The leaders will make short opening statements at the beginning of the programme and closing statements at the conclusion of the debate.

During the two-hour live debate, leaders will address questions posed by the studio audience.

The format will allow each leader to give an uninterrupted one-minute answer to each question, before the debate is opened to moderated discussion between the leaders, for about 15 minutes on each question.

The debate will address four substantial election questions with enough time allocated for a proper free flowing debate between the leaders.

Who is in the audience?

ITV has asked the audience for their questions, as well as ITV viewers, who have been asked to submit questions via wales@itv.com.

An experienced editorial panel is selecting the questions that will go through to the debate on the night. The leaders will not see the questions in advance.

The invited audience of around 200 people is broadly demographically representative of Wales and is politically balanced.

There will be three commercial breaks during the broadcast.

Sharp End: Rate the Debate

An hour-long special edition of political programme Sharp End will follow News At Ten at 10.30pm.

Presented by Andrea Byrne, the “Rate the Debate” edition will be broadcast live from the ITV Wales studios in Cardiff Bay.

The programme will feature live reaction to the debate from pundits and voters, together with analysis of social media comments and reaction from the party “spinners” on the performance of each of the politicians.

Andrea Byrne will host a special 'Rate the Debate' edition of Sharp End

Wales At Six

Earlier in the evening, Jonathan Hill will be live from the venue with a special election debate preview edition of Wales at Six.
