Alps ski death: seven-year-old-boy from Brecon is named
A seven-year-old boy who fell to his death on a skiing holiday in the French Alps has been named locally as Carwyn Scott-Howell from the village of Talybont-on-Usk, near Brecon.
Schoolboy Carwyn was on holiday with his family when he asked to ski alone on the final run of the day.
Carwyn's parents had taken him skiing along with his older brother Gerwyn, 19, and sister Antonia, nine.
The tragic accident happened on Friday which was the family's last day on the slopes before returning home.
Police are still trying to piece together the tragic sequence of events, but they believe the little boy was killed instantly in the fall after leaving the marked ski slope to look for his family.
Carwyn was found at the bottom of a sheer cliff after his parents alerted the piste patrol that he was missing.
The area was described as a 'dangerous, out-of-bounds area' by emergency services, who said rescuers had to be winched down from a helicopter to retrieve the body.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said the family are receiving consular assistance.
