Designer credited with popularising the mini-skirt made a Dame in New Year's Honours list
Fashion designer Mary Quant, who is credited with popularising the mini skirt, has been made a Dame in the New Year's Honours list.
The 80 year old, whose parents are Welsh, was given the honour for services to British fashion.
She was one of the most influential figures in the 1960s fashion scene, after starting to make her own clothes in 1955, experimenting with shorter hemlines in the late 1950s.
