While many of us are preparing to sit down to a family meal this Christmas Day, new research commissioned by Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), has found the tradition of sitting down to a roast dinner has become a rare occasion.

According to research the popularity of roast dinners has dropped 8.4% year on year. It's thought the main reason is younger consumers not wanting to spend a lot of time preparing a meal.

In fact the average time allocated for meal preparation has decreased too; from an hour in 1980, to just over 30 minutes.

Research also found the number of people cooking for themselves has increased from 33% in 1980, to 44% in 2014.
