Wales lose opening autumn series game 28 - 33 to Australia

Wales have suffered a narrow defeat to Australia in the opening match of this year's autumn series.

Despite an exhilarating game, the Wallabies ran out winners by 33 points to 28.

Before today's game Wales coach Warren Gatland said the focus of the squad was on building towards the World Cup next year.

But Wales started the game like the World Cup had already begun - Rhys Webb scoring after just three minutes.

The Wallabies came back into the match following two tries from Israel Folau - the second capitalising on a misplaced pass from George North.

Right on half time Wales came back - Alun Wyn Jones converting after some intense Welsh pressure.

Wales, eager to halt a run of nine straight defeats to the Aussies, took the lead once more. A penalty try awarded after Australia turned a scrum under the posts.

As the match drew to a close the extra quality in the Australian squad began to show - Bernard Foley proving lethal with a series of penalties towards the end.
