Tesco cash machine advertises 'free erection' after translation error
Tesco has mistakenly advertised a "free erection" following a Welsh translation error.
The cash machine at the company's new Express branch in Aberystwyth promises customers "Codiad am Ddim" which translates as "free erection", instead of free cash withdrawals.
The correct term is "codi arian am ddim".
Unsurprisingly, the huge error was the talk of the town on Tuesday.
Aberystwyth councillor Ceredig Davies, who spotted the sign, told ITV News Wales that the mistake had "reached new heights" for examples of poor translations.
"Ten out of ten for Tesco for making the effort but they could have checked with a Welsh speaker. It reaches new heights for poor translation," Mr Davies said.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’ve taken the sign down and will replace it with the correct translation as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone who pointed out the mistake.”
The company later said it appreciated that it is a "sensitive area".
