DID YOU KNOW?
Slade is a former PE teacher - he also coached swimming, badminton, tennis, cricket and athletics while at college
He never played football professionally - he was an uncontracted reserve at Notts County
He has twice won the League One Manager of the Year award - with Yeovil in 2007, and with Leyton Orient last season
Cardiff owner Vincent Tan hired him to take the club back to the Premier League, but Slade has never won promotion as a manager - losing in a play-off final with Grimsby in 2006, with Yeovil in 2007, and with Leyton Orient in 2014
His four years spent at Orient, since 2010, made him the fourth longest-serving manager in British football - Tan wants him to eventually become the longest-serving at Cardiff
Slade banned his Leyton Orient players from playing computer game FIFA 14 on matchdays, concerned about their focus on their match
He didn't spend any money on new players for years at Orient, relying on free transfers - but there's sure to be a bigger budget available to him at the Cardiff City Stadium
