Former Olympic and World road race champion Nicole Cooke has hit out at a 'naked' cycling kit worn by a Colombian team at the Giro della Toscana in Tuscany.

The kit caused controversy on social media after the photo appeared showing the six riders wearing the design with a flesh coloured band around the midriff.

Cooke, who won gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, took to twitter and said the kit had 'turned the sport into a joke'

The 31 year-old, who retired in 2013, added 'Girls stand up for yourselves - say no'

Reports from Columbia say the kit was designed by one of the riders and has been worn for some time.
