We asked Welsh people in the 60s if they'd fly to the Moon

The interviews were carried out in 1961

In 1961 Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to travel into space.

It made the prospect of travelling to the Moon seem more possible.

However, as these 1961 street interviews from ITV's Wales archive show, some people had unorthodox ideas about what getting to the moon might involve!

There are around 250,000 items in the ITV Wales archive.

The entire archive - comprising of film, tape and other formats - is now housed at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth.

The interviews were carried out in 1961

The footage is being digitised by experts at the library, as part of a major project to preserve the archive for the nation for decades to come.
