Children at a school in Bangor have used 21st-century technology to help them create a mural marking the centenary of the First World War.

Ysgol Glancegin pupils were asked to take part in a pilot project funded by the Arts Council of Wales to explore how digital technology might help schools and arts organisations overcome geographical barriers.

Year four children researched a project based on the First World War and then briefed London-based Welsh artist Pete Fowler via Skype.

Over a period of weeks, the pupils shared their ideas with Pete and he uploaded his drawings on a blog for the children to see his progress.

After receiving feedback from the children, the final image was agreed and Pete emailed the image in sections. The sections were projected on to plywood panels and the children painted the mural themselves, before the boards were attached to a shipping container.

The whole project was followed on the school's blog and the finished mural was unveiled today.

Headteacher Bethan Morris-Jones said the project was a fitting tribute to the efforts the children put in as well to commemorate World War One.
