Wales is at the top of the league table when it comes to accidents involving young drivers. According to the RAC Foundation almost 1 in 5 of all road casualties in Dyfed Powys involve accidents with drivers between the ages of 17 and 19. Other figures from Wales include:

  • 17% road casualties in Gwent involve young drivers

  • 15.8% road casualties in North Wales involve young drivers

  • 15.2% road casualties in South Wales involve young drivers

The RAC Foundation believes thousands of people across Britain could avoid injury if younger drivers were forced to limit the number of passengers they carry, or the times they drive, until they get more experience.

The Department for Transport have said they're aware that the number of young people being killed on our roads is far too high and that they want to do all they can to tackle the issue
