HTV Wales moved to its purpose-built site at Culverhouse Cross in 1984, after outgrowing its old headquarters in the Pontcanna area of Cardiff.

The new site was a 170,000sq ft complex with two studios (with space for even more) along with office suites, a canteen, bar... and helipad.

The studios opened with a lively opening ceremony - broadcast on TV!

To mark the opening, a special programme was broadcast featuring music, dance and live satellite linkups with Paris, San Francisco and Toyko.

In 1987, Sir Tom Jones filmed his 'Born to be Me' TV special at Culverhouse Cross
