A woman was burnt when her electronic cigarette exploded overnight after being plugged into a phone charger.

Lucy May, 22, was in bed at her home in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, and left the e-cigarette attached to a USB charging socket when she went to bed.

The e-cigarette set fire to her bed, with Lucy needing to be treated in hospital for the resulting burns to her legs.

Lucy had bought a pair of e-cigarettes in a market for £35 in an attempt to stop smoking.

When alerted to the flames at 1am, she called out for her parents and twin sister, who live at the same house.

She was taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea and treated for third degree burns to her hands and legs and the bottom of her abdomen.
