Money back for Caldey Island monks

A community of monks on the island of Caldey have won £20,000 cash back after being overcharged for their electricity.

The Cistercian monks living off the West Wales coast were hit by huge bills over the last 10 years.

Energy experts were called in and discovered the monks had been overpaying two electricity companies.

Twelve monks live and work on the island, off Tenby, making perfume, ice cream, cheese and chocolate to sell to holidaymakers.

They plan to invest their rebate on a heating system for the draught abbey after being hit by one of the worst winters on record.
