Local Hero finalist: Peter Bush
Peter has spent half of his life volunteering. Since the age of 12 he’s volunteered with a number of different charities including St John Ambulance and the RNLI. He says volunteering gives him a sense of pride in his community, and he enjoys helping others and making sure they’re safe.
Currently he’s working on creating a 24/7 community first aid service where people can have minor injuries treated by volunteers, instead of going to busy hospitals.
That’s between helping unemployed people in the area develop the skills they need to get a job by running CV workshops and giving them advice on numeracy and literacy.
He’s thrilled to be nominated - "I think it means a lot…it just means the community is behind me, which obviously pushes me further."
