Tributes have been paid to Shropshire teenager Georgia Williams a day after the body of a young female was found near Wrexham.

Georgia's parents Steven and Lynette Williams were joined by more than 100 family members, friends and well-wishers who gathered at the Wellington AFC football ground in Telford to remember the 17-year-old.

Yesterday detectives searching for Georgia found a body in woodland near the Nant-y-Garth pass between Ruthin and Llangollen in Denbighshire.

The body has not been formally identified, but West Mercia Police say they believe the discovery is linked to Georgia's disappearance.

Yesterday Superintendent Nav Malik said evidence had come to light that Georgia died at an address in Wellington.

Georgia's father, who himself serves in the West Mercia police force, said today was a chance to celebrate his daughter.

Georgia's boyfriend Matthew Bird, 19, and best friend Katy Lafferty, 17, were among those at the stadium.

Numerous friends and well-wishers arrived to leave flowers on the north stand and write in a book of condolence opened by the club where Georgia worked on match days.

One minute of loud cheering and clapping was also observed for Georgia, as well as chants of 'Georgia, Georgia'.

Organisers said they believed it would be more suited to her bubbly, fun-loving personality than a minute's silence.

Many were moved to tears as the football club's anthem 'Keeping the Dream Alive' was played.

Jamie Reynolds, also from Wellington, Telford, has been charged with Georgia's murder.

The 22-year-old appeared at Telford Magistrates' Court this morning and was remanded in custody to next appear at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday.
