Clean-up underway in Bridgend after flash-floods

The clean-up is underway in the Brackla area of Bridgend after flash-flooding yesterday forced nine people out of their homes.

Officers from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spent much of yesterday pumping out flood water from homes in the area.

Eight ground-floor flats were affected, with up to eight inches of water inside.

Those whose homes were affected were taken to a local community centre, and will stay with friends and relatives.

The fire service is now focusing its attention on a culvert, which it's thought was overwhelmed by water. They are clearing it to see if they can find a blockage and stop it happening again.

It comes as the Environment Agency and Met Office warn that Wales is facing an increased risk of flooding this winter, even after only brief periods of heavy rain, because river levels are high and the ground saturated after one of the wettest summers on record.
