Green-fingered Phillip Vowles from Llanharry shows off giant cabbage
A green-fingered grandfather from Llanharry has been showing off his jumbo-sized crop ahead of the Giant Veg Show at Rhondda Heritage Park this weekend.
Phillip Vowles plans to take two enormous cabbages to the show - the one pictured above tips the scales at a whopping 100 pounds and spans almost six feet.
He is also working towards breaking the world record for the largest cabbage.
Phillip insists that anyone could grow vegetables to rival his, saying: "I'm an ordinary man - if I can do it, anyone can."
But he admits his passion sometimes gets him into a spot of trouble, joking: "I give them a lot of love and tender care - I talk better to my vegetables than I do to my wife!"
The 63-year-old let ITV Wales in on some of his gardening secrets.
