Welsh athlete Aled Sion Davies has won a gold medal in F42 discus at the Paralympic Games in London.

The 21-year-old from Bridgend dominated the competition inside the Olympic Stadium, leading throughout and saving his best throw for last. Davies already has a 2012 bronze medal, won in the shot put on Friday.

He told ITV News' Lewis Vaughan Jones that the thought of being a Paralympic gold medallist is still "surreal" and something he will "always remember and cherish."

With the discus in hand, Davies delivered a throw of 45.31m in the first round to impose a target that was always going to be difficult for his rivals to match. He improved it slightly to 45.37m in the third round. With victory already assured, tears in his eyes and a huge ovation greeting him, Davies reached 46.14m with his final throw to break the European record and move further clear of Iranian Mehroad Karam Zadeh and China'sLezheng Wang.

Davies was born with hemi-hemilia of the right leg, affecting him from the right hip downwards.
