A Gwynedd man has been indefinitely detained in a secure hospital for killing his wife and son.

42-year-old David Wyn Jones pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility last month.

He was handed the sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court under section 37 of the Mental Health Act.

Suzanne Jones and her son William died at the family home near Tremadog in March.

The court heard evidence that Jones was mentally ill and suffering from delusions. He thought his son William was the devil, and stabbed and strangled his wife Suzanne as she tried to defend her son.

During the trial, Mr Jones' defence barrister Simon Mills said he was a husband of previous good character with no history of violence towards his wife or son.

But he said there was significant evidence that the defendant had been suffering from a "delusional disorder" in the run up to the killings.
