Georgia Davies has failed to reach the final of the 100m backstroke in the swimming pool at London 2012. The swimmer from Swansea finished sixth in her semi final on Sunday. She finished the race in 1.00.56, the 15th fastest time.

Fellow Team GB swimmer Gemma Spofforth qualified sixth in a time of 59.70. The world record holder said after the race that she was "really happy" and that it had been "a spectacular journey for me the last four years with a lot of ups and downs."

Georgia Davies is a Law student at Swansea University and gained her first international medal at the European Junior Championships.

The 21 year old was selected for the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008. At the Commonwealth Games in 2010, Davies won the bronze in the 50m backstroke and finished fourth in the medley relay with a welsh record split of 60.9 seconds for her backstroke leg.
