Welsh actor and singer Brian Hibbard had died, his agency has confirmed to ITV Wales.

The 65-year-old died in a Cardiff hospital after a long battle with prostate cancer.

Ebbw Vale-born Hibbard rose to fame as lead singer of the band the 'Flying Pickets', who had a Christmas number one in 1983 with 'Only You.'

He later moved to acting, starring in a host of TV shows and films including Twin Town, Coronation Street, Pam Fi Duw? and Pobol Y Cwm.

Hibbard was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010 but his health seriously declined eight weeks ago.

He died at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with his actress wife Caroline, 52, at his bedside. He leaves his three children.

Before finding fame with the Flying Pickets, Hibbard worked as a teacher, steel worker, barman and chimney sweep.

Tributes are already pouring in from friends describing him as a 'great man and lover of life'.
