Two community allotments in South Wales have been nominated for a European award.

This afternoon the President of the International Allotment Movement has visited The Bron Fair Allotments, in Maesteg.

The project has been praised for the work it does encouraging people with visual impairments to garden.

Tomorrow, Chris Zijdeveld will visit the other contender - Cold Barn Farm at Trevethin, Pontypool.

This allotment aims to encourage local school children to learn new skills.

They are given the opportunity to tend to the vegetables they have planted.

The project leaders, at Cold Barn Farm, also teach the young people about the benefits of fresh fruit and vegetables and give lessons on how to cook the produce they have grown.
